What We Treat

Neck pain and headache treatment in University Heights.

The ache that starts at the base of your skull and takes the afternoon with it. The blind spot you check by turning your whole body. Those two are usually the same problem, and a cause-first evaluation is where you find out which one.

Sound Familiar?

Does this sound like your week?

  • You check the blind spot by turning your whole body, because your neck will not go that far
  • A headache starts at the base of your skull around 3pm and owns the rest of the day
  • You wake up with your head stuck to one side and blame the pillow again
  • Pins and needles run from your shoulder blade down into two fingers
  • You roll your shoulders every twenty minutes hoping something resets
  • The painkillers in your bag have stopped being an emergency thing

Two or more of those is a pattern, not a bad week.

Why It Happens

The neck ache and the headache are one story.

Your neck holds up a head about the weight of a bowling ball, all day, usually a little further forward than it was built for. Hold that long enough and four things happen. The deep muscles at the front of the neck stop doing their job. The muscles across the top of your shoulders take over as a permanent brace. The small joints at the very top of the neck stiffen up. And the nerves that leave that region refer pain straight into the back of your skull, behind your eye, or down an arm.

That last one is why so many headaches are really neck headaches, and why a new pillow or another tablet only ever buys a few hours. A cause-first evaluation sorts out which of those layers is actually generating your symptoms. Treat that, and the headache and the stiffness both go quiet.

The Honest Truth

Six more months of this is not free.

If you keep waiting

  • Headaches move from a bad-week thing to a most-weeks thing
  • Your shoulders and upper back hold the brace all day, and start aching too
  • You keep paying for something with medication that medication was never going to fix

If you start this week

  • You find out whether it is the joints, the nerve or the muscles, at visit one
  • Hands-on work on the upper neck goes straight at the headache trigger
  • You leave with a plan that has an endpoint, not a standing monthly appointment

You are the one who keeps everyone else on schedule. That is exactly why your own appointment is the one that keeps sliding, and exactly why you are reading this.

How We Fix It

Four phases. Aimed at the neck, not the headache.

Every plan has an endpoint. Here is what the four phases look like for a neck.

Weeks 1–2

Pain

Calm it down.

Hands-on work on the stiff joints at the top of your neck settles the tissue that has been referring pain into your head.

Weeks 2–6

Prime

Get the motion back.

Rotation and extension come back, along with the mid-back movement your neck has been covering for. Checking a blind spot stops being a full body turn.

Weeks 6–10

Perform

Make it strong enough to trust.

The deep neck muscles and the shoulder blades get strong enough to hold your head up for eight hours without your traps bracing to do it.

Weeks 10+

Prevent

Make sure it does not come back.

Screen height, desk setup, driving position and how you hold your phone all get fixed, so the hours that built this stop rebuilding it.

Questions, Answered

What people ask us about necks and headaches.

Neither is usually the fastest route. Neck scans show narrowing and wear in plenty of people who feel nothing at all, so an image on its own rarely explains a headache. Waiting has its own cost, because the longer your shoulders brace, the more you have to unwind later. We look at your neck by hand, test what reproduces your symptoms, and tell you what we find. If a scan is genuinely needed, we will say so.

That fear is reasonable, and it is also the thing keeping the neck stiff. A neck that stops moving gets weaker and more sensitive, which lowers the bar for the next headache. We start well inside what you tolerate and build from there. You are one-on-one with a licensed physical therapist every visit, so nobody is guessing at how far to push.

Fewer than you think, and you will know the number early. Your neck plan runs through four phases: Pain, Prime, Perform, Prevent. After the evaluation we tell you what the plan looks like and what finished looks like. That is a plan with an endpoint, not a standing appointment you keep forever.
